measuring at the uxbridge skate park

Construction is scheduled to begin this month on the The Uxbridge Optimist PumpPark at the Fields of Uxbridge, directly adjacent to the Rotary Skatepark. Construction is scheduled to take approximately 5 weeks and be completed late this summer (2019).

a hard-surface pumppark is a mass configuration of geometrically formed rollers, bowls and berms, allowing bikes, boards and scooters to achieve and sustain speed, using only inertia

The Design/Build project will be completed by Velosolutions Canada, a division of Velosolutions Switzerland, the world leader in hard surface pumppark construction.

Velosolutions was founded by world renowned down hill mountain biker and all round action sport enthusiast Claudio Caluori. Claudio conceived of and began designing and building hard-surface pumpparks in his home country of Switzerland in 2011.

The response and uptake on Claudio’s hard surface pumppark concept was immediate and obvious. His company Velosolutions has since designed and built a multitude of pumptracks all over the world; Uxbridge will be the first Velosolutions’ designed Canadian pumptrack east of Alberta and will rank as one of the biggest tracks in the country.

Awarding of the design/build contract represented an important milestone in the Pumppark project.

From its very conception the Pumppark has been about partnerships. Primary Partners in the project now include Uxbridge Rotary, Uxbridge Township, Ontario Trillium Corporation, Durham Mountain Bike Association, Durham Shredders and the Optimist Club of Uxbridge (name rights holders).

Primary funding for the pumptrack is in place and construction is scheduled to begin this month (August). As construction begins, fundraising continues; to take this park to the next level, the Pumppark Committee is seeking public support to add additional amenities such as lighting and an event pavilion.

The Pumppark committee has structured a Donor Recognition Program

The program is designed to provide everyone who wishes, an opportunity to support the project. All funds raised will be used for additional enhancements within the park.

Options for contributing and recognition include a:

  • a donor recognition wall
  • engraved granite paving stones for a signature walkway to be constructed within the park
  • dedicated park features such as benches and trees
  • engraved granite boulders (corporate logos)
  • donor recognition signage

The objective is to provide an opportunity for everyone who wishes, to be involved.

The Pumppark web site will provide a direct conduit for donor support, as well as being an ongoing go-to hub for information about the project
